The first Puerto
Vallarta Film Festival of the Americas will take place November
6-14, 2004. Organized with the support of Anjelica and Danny Huston,
an homage was celebrated in November of 2003 to their father, the
legendary director John Huston, with galas and free movies at Isla
Río Cuale each evening for a week. A number of events will
take place to celebrate this upcoming festival exploring the cutting
edge cinema of all of the Americas from Alaska to Argentina. Here
is a selection of current plans during the festival in Puerto Vallarta.
Over fifty films will be screened in the festival including shorts,
documentaries and features. Special guests including stars and directors
will be invited for international premieres.
November 2 Day of the Dead
To celebrate the memory of John Huston, Richard Burton, Gabriel
Figueroa and Emilio "El Indio" Fernández, this
event will take place on Isla Rio Cuale and will be sponsored
in part by Terra Noble.
November 6
Opening night fiesta
Following an opening night premiere an authentic and spectacular
Mexican Fiesta will follow on the romantic Isla Rio Cuale.
November 7-10
Art Expo, including folk-art and design, both home and jewelry
This Art Exposition, sponsored by the Sheraton Buganvilias and
local art galleries, will exhibit major artists from Vallarta,
including jewelry designers and home décor. The night of
the inauguration, classical music, hors d'œuvres and a cocktail
will premiere the exhibit.
November 8
The film festival will pay homage to Gabriel Figueroa and Emilio
Fernandez (marking the 100th anniversary of his birth) with a special
presentation and dinner on the original set of The Night of the Iguana
.
November 9
New Orleáns Jazz Concert sponsored by the Playa del Sol Group
November 10
Concert on the Los Muertos Beach sponsored by La Palapa and El Dorado restaurants
November 11
Inauguration of the 10th Annual Gourmet Festival…a celebration in gastronomy. To be held at the Sheraton Buganvilias with the Zacatecas Symphony Orchestra
November 12
La Casa del Habano and Smoke Magazine are sponsoring a gourmet dinner complete with fine wines, Cuban cigars and cognacs at Quinta Real Hotel.
November 13
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and Punta Mita Properties are hosting a celebrity golf tournament to benefit the Selva negra Ecological Foundation. This 9 hole shotgun will be followed by a spectacular brunch on the beach at one of the finest resort properties
November 13
Closing Awards Ceremony
Sponsored by the Marriott CasaMagna, this star-studded event will
begin with cocktails and hors d'œuvres served in the Great
Hall. The stage will be set on the Great Lawn facing the sea with
seating for 1000. Following the awards ceremony, dinner will be
served and an evening of extraordinary entertainment will follow.
