The 2004 Puerto Vallarta Film Festival of the Americas marks an important confluence of the independent filmmakers of the Americas. At its core, the Festival hopes to create a forum where these films and filmmakers can come together and share their art, ideas and cultures. The festival is looking to discover and showcase the international filmmakers of the future.

The Latin Americans, for their part, will discover that North American filmmakers face similar complex roads to the broad commercial market.

Vallarta Lifestyles Along with an ambitious mix of independent cinema, the Festival will showcase new commercial films as well. As Puerto Vallarta is only two hours by air from Hollywood, the event will have an industry profile. Audiences will discover a picturesque city that has always honored its filmmaking heritage established by director John Huston with his film “The Night of the Iguana” which was shot on location in Puerto Vallarta.

In response to our collective interest in the global environment, we are presenting a stellar selection of environmental films that equally celebrate the art of filmmaking. The Festival will also invite a number of films that are currently influencing both independent and commercial filmmakers. The Festival is proud to honor the works of Emilio Fernandez and Gabriel Figueroa this year, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the maverick Mexican director, Emilio “El Indio” Fernandez.
